Will AI replace workers in Garment manufacturing industry?

Is AI going to replace the workers in the garment industry? Will the jobs of the workers be occupied by the AI? Will workers be jobless shortly due to the involvement of AI in the garment industry? These are the hot, ongoing questions of this decade. Answering those questions isn’t as easy as it seems. Different factors need to be considered for the answer to these questions.

There are different sectors in the garment industry. The influence of AI in different sectors works differently. According to the type of work, it can be predicted that those particular jobs in different sectors are going to be replaced by AI or not.

Artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly transformed the garment industry, enhancing efficiency, quality, and sustainability. AI can predict future demand, optimize supply chain management, and automate pattern design and fabric cutting processes. AI-powered computer vision systems enable real-time quality inspections, ensuring consistent product quality. Production planning and scheduling are optimized by AI algorithms, streamlining processes and reducing lead times. AI-driven robotic systems automate sewing and assembly tasks, increasing production speed and efficiency. Quality control is another area where AI can be more useful and efficient than workers in yarn manufacturing factories. AI-powered computer vision systems can inspect yarn for defects, ensuring only high-quality products are sent further down the production line. Process optimization is another area where AI can optimize spinning parameters based on real-time data, leading to more efficient production processes and energy savings. Yarn composition optimization is another area where AI can suggest adjustments to yarn materials to meet specific requirements, considering factors such as strength, elasticity, and cost.

Supply chain optimization can be achieved through inventory management, where AI can predict demand, optimize inventory levels, and improve overall supply chain efficiency. Order fulfillment optimization can also be achieved by managing production schedules, ensuring timely order fulfillment, and reducing lead times. Labor efficiency can be improved by using robots and automated systems guided by AI. Robots and automated systems can assist workers in tasks such as material handling, reducing manual labor, and enhancing overall efficiency. However, AI cannot operate itself; it needs clear instruction and must be operated by a skilled worker. In the weaving and knitting divisions of the fabric manufacturing industry, AI can be implemented in places like textile testing and quality assurance, fabric roll unloading, yarn package loading, and piecing of yarns before starting production and after breaking. This would improve the efficiency of manufacturing and reduce the need for manual inspection.

The constant evolution of AI emphasizes the industry’s need to stay competitive in the ever-evolving market landscape. AI technologies also enable customization and personalization, allowing products to be tailored to individual preferences. AI monitors machinery and predicts maintenance requirements, minimizing downtime and costs. Energy consumption optimization promotes eco-friendly practices, while AI technologies monitor worker safety and ergonomics, promoting a healthier work environment. AI aids in developing sustainable production practices and minimizing environmental footprints, and data analytics empower informed decision-making and ensure informed business strategies.
