Tangshan Sanyou and Circ partner to expand recycled lyocell production in China

Sanyou Chemical Fiber, a major manufacturer of cellulose fibers under the Tangshan Sanyou Group, has formed a strategic partnership with Circ, a U.S.-based innovator in textile-to-textile recycling. The collaboration aims to accelerate the production of recycled cellulosic fibers, particularly lyocell, within the textile industry.

Sanyou has committed to purchasing pulp for the next five years from Circ’s first commercial-scale facility, which is set to begin operations in 2028. This partnership will lead to the production of lyocell staple fibers containing 30% recycled content, which will help scale up the use of recycled fibers in the textile sector.

Peter Majeranowski, CEO of Circ, emphasized the importance of such collaborations:

As one of the leading global MMCF producers, Sanyou’s commitment to Circ demonstrates both the quality of our product and the future of the industry. Core to Circ is creating forward momentum toward a truly circular economy in the global fashion industry, and partnerships like the one with Sanyou are essential for achieving this goal.

The Sanyou-Circ partnership highlights the necessity of strong collaborations to scale textile-to-textile recycling effectively. With this commitment, Sanyou ensures that its customers will have access to high-quality recycled Circ Lyocell, at a time when demand for sustainable alternatives is growing and brands are seeking diverse production sources.

Sanyou has also earned the highest rating in the 2024 Hot Button Report by Canopy, which assesses forest sourcing and leadership in Next Gen production, helping to drive the sustainable fiber market forward.

Zhang Dongbin, Deputy General Manager of Sanyou, noted,

Both Sanyou and Circ are committed to sustainable practices that reduce the environmental impact of the fashion industry. This strategic partnership will set new benchmarks in the textile industry, thanks to our shared vision for a sustainable future and circular economy.
