InnoFiber showcases textile projects with real-world impact at UMinho event

The InnoFiber Research Lab recently participated in the Inovar e Empreender 2025 showcase, held on September 17 at the School of Engineering, University of Minho. The event brought together spin-offs, start-ups, and research centers focused on entrepreneurship in science and technology. InnoFiber used the opportunity to present several of its ongoing projects, each aimed at advancing sustainable textile development through applied research and collaboration.

Projects with Purpose

At the event, InnoFiber highlighted five key initiatives:

  • GIATEX – A project focused on integrating advanced textile technologies with sustainability goals. GIATEX explores new methods for textile production that reduce environmental impact while maintaining performance standards.
  • Lusitano – This initiative draws on regional textile heritage and modern engineering to develop materials that are both locally relevant and globally viable.
  • BioShoes4All – A collaborative effort to design bio-based footwear solutions. The project investigates alternatives to synthetic components, promoting biodegradable and renewable materials in shoe manufacturing.
  • Beat – Bioeconomy at Textiles – Beat emphasizes the role of bioeconomy principles in textile innovation. It supports circular design strategies and resource-efficient production models.
  • PBA – Textiles Vertical – This project focuses on vertical integration of sustainable practices across the textile value chain, from raw material sourcing to end-product development.

Each project was presented with tangible outcomes, reflecting InnoFiber’s commitment to applied science and measurable progress. The lab’s stand attracted attention from attendees across academia, industry, and policy sectors, sparking conversations around practical implementation and future collaboration.

A Platform for Exchange

The showcase served as more than just a presentation space. It became a forum for dialogue between researchers, entrepreneurs, and students. InnoFiber’s team engaged with visitors to discuss technical challenges, share data, and explore new ideas. These interactions underscored the lab’s role not only as a research entity but also as a connector within the textile innovation ecosystem.

While the projects presented are still evolving, their shared focus on sustainability and technical rigor positions InnoFiber as a key contributor to responsible textile development. The lab’s presence at Inovar e Empreender 2025 reaffirmed its dedication to turning research into action—without relying on buzzwords or vague promises.
