CFP Bangladesh recently organized a multi-stakeholder workshop titled “Driving Demand for Recycled Fibres in Bangladesh.” The event, supported by GFA and Bestseller, brought together key players from the textile value chain to explore how Bangladesh can reduce waste and boost its textile industry by incorporating recycled fibres.
As experts in circular economy practices, Reverse Resources presented an important case for recycling textile waste, highlighting that it could save Bangladesh an estimated $5 billion. This figure underscores the financial potential of recycling in the country’s textile sector, which is one of the largest in the world.
The workshop featured a wide range of participants, including well-known global brands like H&M, M&S, and Benetton, along with manufacturers such as Urmi, Epyllion, Pearl Global, and Rising Tex. Recyclers, including Recover, Cyclo, Saraz, and Hamim, also contributed valuable insights into the practical steps needed to create a more sustainable and closed-loop textile system in Bangladesh.
The session aimed to identify tangible actions to stimulate local demand for recycled fibres and to accelerate the country’s shift towards a more sustainable textile sector. Key to the discussion were the roles of technology, policy, and goodwill in driving this change. These three factors—when aligned can unlock significant progress not just for Bangladesh, but for global textile sustainability.
Ultimately, the workshop emphasized the importance of collaboration and action to ensure a future where recycling plays a central role in the country’s textile value chain.
