Three years after launching Cyclon™, the performance footwear brand On has introduced Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1—a model that quietly redefines how recycled materials can be repurposed for high-performance gear. Built with a Speedboard® crafted from retired Cloudneo shoes and leftover manufacturing scraps, the 1.1 isn’t just a product—it’s a process.
Materials with a Memory
The Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 uses a Speedboard® made entirely from recycled thermoplastic materials. These come from two sources:
- Returned Cloudneo shoes via On’s subscription-based take-back program
- Excess materials from the original manufacturing line
This dual-source approach blends mechanical recycling with fiber-to-fiber recovery, reducing waste while maintaining structural integrity. The Speedboard®—a key component that drives forward motion—is engineered to perform without compromise, even after its first life.
How the Recycling Works
Returned Cloudneo shoes are collected through On’s reverse logistics system. Customers send back worn pairs, which are then disassembled. Usable components are separated, cleaned, and reprocessed into new parts. The Speedboard® in Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 is one of the first to benefit from this closed-loop system.
This isn’t just about reusing materials—it’s about designing for reuse from the start. Every Cloudneo is built with recyclability in mind, making the transition to new products smoother and more efficient.
Built for Performance, Designed for Longevity
While sustainability is central, the Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 doesn’t sideline performance. Early feedback highlights:
- Lightweight construction suitable for daily runs
- Responsive cushioning supported by the recycled Speedboard®
- Breathable upper made from renewable materials
The shoe is designed to last, with durability tested across varied terrains. It’s not a prototype—it’s a fully functional product that meets the demands of serious runners.
Circularity Without Conditions
One of the more thoughtful aspects of the Cyclon program is its commitment to circularity beyond loyalty. Customers can return their shoes at end-of-life whether or not they choose to buy again. This avoids turning sustainability into a marketing hook and keeps the focus on waste reduction.
True circularity means giving customers the ability to return products at end-of-life regardless of whether they buy again. That principle is embedded in the Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1’s lifecycle.
What Comes Next
The Cloudrise Cyclon 1.1 is part of a broader shift in how performance footwear is made, used, and reused. It’s not trying to be flashy—it’s trying to be thoughtful. And in a sector often driven by hype, that’s a welcome change.
