Apple and Issey Miyake introduce 3D knitted iPhone Pocket with fashion tech precision

The global fashion and technology worlds received a fresh jolt of innovation as Apple, in collaboration with Japanese design house Issey Miyake, introduced the iPhone Pocket—a 3D-knit wearable accessory that blends textile craftsmanship with Apple’s evolving design identity.

The accessory brings a completely new way of carrying smartphones, transforming them from handheld devices into wearable fashion statements. The iPhone Pocket comes to market at a time when consumers demand functionality without compromising style, particularly in the growing fashion-tech crossover segment.

A showcase of advanced knitted engineering

Apple describes the product as “a beautiful and wearable way to carry iPhone,” according to Apple Newsroom. Unlike conventional phone sleeves made of leather or molded plastic, the iPhone Pocket is constructed from a singular 3D-knitted textile structure. The ribbed, open-mesh pattern is engineered to stretch, hold weight securely, and maintain shape—reflecting the influence of Issey Miyake’s iconic pleat-based design language.

For the textile industry, the product underscores the versatility of modern knitting technologies. 3D knitting—already used in footwear, sportswear, and accessories—allows for reduced material wastage, seamless constructions, and design personalization. This collaboration illustrates how high-end textiles can redefine premium accessories.

Yoshiyuki Miyamae, Design Director at Issey Miyake, said the accessory celebrates “the joy of wearing an iPhone in your own way,” according to Apple Newsroom. Apple’s VP of Industrial Design, Molly Anderson, emphasized craftsmanship and simplicity as the core of the product vision.

This signals Apple’s deeper interest in exploring textile-based design and wearable fashion—areas traditionally dominated by apparel brands.

The iPhone Pocket offers two wearing options:

  • Short strap version in eight colors: lemon, mandarin, purple, pink, peacock, sapphire, cinnamon, and black
  • Long strap version (cross-body) in three colors: sapphire, cinnamon, and black

Prices range from $149.95 to $229.95, positioning the accessory within Apple’s premium lifestyle category. This is available from 14 November 2025 across major global markets, including the US, UK, Japan, Greater China, South Korea, France, Singapore, and Italy, according to Telecompaper.

Response and fashion-tech relevance

The product has triggered strong reactions globally. Many consumers admire the design innovation, while others question the high price of a knitted pouch. According to NDTV, the launch generated widespread curiosity, particularly due to its unconventional look.
