Uster Technologies marks 150 Years with celebration in Switzerland

Uster Technologies recently celebrated its 150th anniversary, a milestone that reflects a long-standing presence in the textile industry. Founded in 1875, the company has built a reputation for precision in textile measurement, starting with its first yarn evenness tester introduced in 1948. Over time, Uster Statistics became a global reference point for quality benchmarks in textile production.
The celebration took place in Switzerland, where Philip Mosimann, Chairman of the Board, and Davide Maccabruni, CEO, shared reflections on the company’s journey. They emphasized the importance of heritage with the phrase “Ohne Herkunft keine Zukunft” — without origin, no future. This sentiment was echoed throughout the event, which included the inauguration of a new museum wing and an innovation zone. These additions aim to connect Uster’s historical achievements with its current and future direction.
Uster’s legacy extends beyond textiles. As part of the former Zellweger company, it also contributed to measurement technology and telecommunications, producing items like telephones and switchboards. This broader industrial background adds depth to its story.

The anniversary drew attention from professionals across the textile sector. Comments from former employees, industry leaders, and partners highlighted pride, nostalgia, and admiration for Uster’s consistent role in shaping quality standards. One attendee noted, “If you can’t measure something, you can’t understand it. If you can’t understand it, you can’t control it. If you can’t control it, you can’t improve it.”
The event was not only a celebration but also a reminder of the company’s continued relevance. With its museum and innovation zone now open, Uster Technologies appears ready to carry its legacy forward
