Polygiene introduces OdorCrunch2.0, a metal-free odor capture technology for textiles

Polygiene has introduced Polygiene OdorCrunch2.0, a new odor capture technology designed to reduce unwanted smells in apparel and other textile products. The development expands the company’s odor control portfolio and focuses on improving freshness in garments without relying on metal-based ingredients.

Odor control has become a key requirement for many textile applications, particularly in sportswear, activewear, and everyday apparel. Polygiene OdorCrunch2.0 addresses this need by capturing odor molecules from the surrounding environment and holding them within the textile structure. By preventing these molecules from being released during wear, garments can remain fresh for longer periods.

The technology builds on the earlier Polygiene OdorCrunch platform and offers stronger odor absorption across a wider range of fabrics. It has been tested on lightweight 100% polyester, as well as blended materials and natural fibres. This compatibility allows brands to apply the treatment across different product categories without changing fabric compositions.

Unlike some conventional odor control treatments that rely on antimicrobial metals, Polygiene OdorCrunch2.0 uses a non-metal odor capture mechanism. The captured odor molecules remain locked within the textile, while the fabric’s comfort, breathability, appearance, and performance remain unchanged.

From a manufacturing perspective, the treatment has been developed to fit existing textile finishing processes. Mills can apply the technology through common methods such as padding and exhaust processes, which helps integrate the treatment into current production lines without major adjustments.

Testing carried out according to ISO 17299-3, a standard for measuring odor reduction in textiles, shows that the technology can achieve a high level of odor reduction, including on lightweight polyester fabrics.

The treatment may also benefit garments that are not washed frequently. Items that require dry cleaning or special care, such as tailored garments or outerwear, can maintain freshness between cleaning cycles. Fewer wash cycles may also help extend garment lifespan and improve wearer comfort.

Sustainability considerations were part of the development process. Polygiene OdorCrunch2.0 contains no heavy metals and no PFAS. Its biodegradability properties are currently being evaluated. By helping garments stay fresh between washes, the technology may also contribute to lower water and energy use during a product’s lifetime.

With broader fabric compatibility, easy application in textile finishing, and a focus on odor capture rather than antimicrobial action, Polygiene OdorCrunch2.0 provides apparel brands and manufacturers with another option for managing odor in modern textile products.
