Syensqo strengthens sustainable laundry care with ISCC PLUS certification in the Netherlands

Syensqo has reached an important sustainability milestone at its manufacturing site in Moerdijk, the Netherlands, by obtaining ISCC PLUS mass balance certification for a key Rhodasurf® laundry care surfactant. The certification applies to products manufactured at the site’s on-pipe ethoxylation facilities and reinforces Syensqo’s commitment to advancing low-carbon, natural-origin solutions for the home care market.

The ISCC PLUS certification confirms that the Moerdijk site operates a robust, third-party-validated chain-of-custody system. This system ensures transparent tracking of bio-circular ethoxylate feedstocks throughout the production process. With this certification in place, Syensqo will begin supplying certified laureth-7 for liquid laundry detergents under its Rhodasurf® B7 UP product line starting in January 2026.

By verifying that bio-circular raw materials are introduced and allocated along the Ethylene Oxide value chain, ISCC PLUS enables the production of natural alcohol ethoxylates with a significantly lower carbon footprint. For customers, this represents a major advantage: the certified surfactant can be used as a drop-in solution, requiring no changes to existing formulations or supply chains while still delivering sustainability benefits.

Commenting on the achievement, Max Chabert, Global Marketing Manager for Home Care at Syensqo, highlighted its broader impact on the industry. He noted that securing ISCC PLUS certification for the Moerdijk ethoxylation unit is a key step toward expanding access to 100% natural, low-carbon-footprint surfactants at industrial scale. By applying a mass-balance approach using bio-circular feedstocks within existing production infrastructure, Syensqo can help customers transition their laundry formulations more quickly—without compromising on performance, reliability, or supply security.

The newly certified grade directly addresses a major challenge faced by fast-moving consumer goods companies and private label manufacturers: sourcing natural-origin surfactants with a reduced CO₂ footprint at scale. Through the combination of ISCC PLUS certification and Syensqo’s well-established alcohol ethoxylation expertise, laundry care formulators gain access to verified, high-performance solutions suitable for a wide range of brands and product formats.

This achievement also aligns closely with Syensqo’s One Planet roadmap. Building on the earlier ISCC PLUS certification of its Zhangjiagang, China, plant in 2022, the Moerdijk certification further strengthens Syensqo’s role as a trusted partner for customers seeking sustainable, transparent, and circular innovation pathways in home care products.

With this latest step, Syensqo continues to demonstrate how sustainability and industrial-scale performance can go hand in hand, supporting the evolving needs of both manufacturers and consumers in the global laundry care market.
