Coats unveils textile-to-textile sewing threads at Textile Exchange Conference
Coats Group plc, a leading manufacturer in the apparel and footwear sectors, is set to showcase its latest innovation, Textile-to-Textile (T2T) sewing threads at the upcoming Textile Exchange Conference in Lisbon, Portugal. Available in T2T Epic and T2T Gramax variants, these threads are made from textile waste through a chemical recycling process.
The T2T threads are designed to match the performance of Coats’ standard threads, including strength, durability, and color fastness. They can be seamlessly integrated into existing production lines without causing any downtime, allowing brands to implement sustainability without sacrificing quality.
The potential impact of these threads is significant. If scaled across the industry, they could help divert millions of garments from ending up in landfills each year.
Coats has committed to advancing circularity in the textile industry. Adriana Morasco, Senior Vice President of Apparel Commercial at Coats, emphasizes that sustainability and performance go hand in hand. “Our Textile-to-Textile threads show that circularity is not just a concept; it’s a commitment,” she said. “They are designed to help brands accelerate their circularity goals.”
Developed at Coats’ Sustainability Hub in India, the threads are made from post-industrial and post-consumer textile waste, addressing the global challenge of textile waste by transforming it into high-quality sewing threads. This move represents a crucial step in advancing the circular economy while reducing environmental impact.
Coats has set a goal to increase the use of preferred raw materials to 60% by 2026, up from 31% in 2022 and 46% in 2024. The launch of Textile-to-Textile threads is part of this broader commitment, helping brand partners transition to circular content for one of the most essential components of a garment: the thread.
At the Textile Exchange Conference, which will take place from October 13–17, 2025, Coats will be showcasing its Textile-to-Textile threads in action, giving visitors the opportunity to explore this exciting development in creating a more sustainable and circular textile future.
