Accelerating Circularity appoints Eileen Mockus as CEO
Accelerating Circularity, the non-profit focused on turning used textiles into new raw materials, has announced a key leadership change. Eileen Mockus, a seasoned expert in sustainable product development, will take over as CEO. Mockus brings over two decades of experience in sustainable innovation, having worked with major brands like Coyuchi, Patagonia, and The North Face.
This leadership shift comes as Karla Magruder, who founded the organization in 2019, transitions to the role of board chair. During her time as CEO, Magruder helped Accelerating Circularity grow into a globally recognized force for circularity, driving key initiatives such as textile-to-textile (T2T) recycling systems and securing a Clinton Global Initiative Commitment to Action.
“I’m proud to have founded and led Accelerating Circularity,” Magruder said. “With Eileen’s expertise in low-impact textile systems, I’m confident the organization will successfully scale from pilot programs to industry-wide solutions. I’m excited to continue supporting this mission as Board Chair.”
The leadership transition signals a pivotal moment for Accelerating Circularity, as the organization moves from testing and proof-of-concept programs to broader commercial-scale implementation of T2T systems. This includes expanding its education initiatives and resources for the textile industry.
In her new role, Mockus expressed her enthusiasm for the path ahead. “The groundwork has been laid, and there is strong momentum. The demand for scalable textile-to-textile recycling is higher than ever, and I’m excited to help the organization transition to a future where textiles are no longer wasted.”
Under Mockus’s leadership, Accelerating Circularity is poised to expand its impact on the textile industry, furthering the mission to create a circular economy where textiles are continuously recycled and reused.
