Jansen Recycling Group BV uses recycled fiberglass blocks for sustainable construction

Jansen Recycling Group BV, one of Europe’s leading metal recyclers, has recently introduced a new, eco-friendly construction material at its facilities. The material—fiberglass plastic building blocks—brings a fresh, sustainable approach to construction, aligning with Jansen’s commitment to reducing waste and promoting a circular economy.

These blocks, known as GRC blocks, are produced by Green Recycling Company BV and made entirely from recycled PVC. A portion of this recycled PVC comes from cable waste, which Jansen Recycling Group collects through its own operations. This innovative process ensures that fewer materials end up as waste, helping to extend their life cycle and reduce the need for new resources.

The GRC blocks are versatile and easy to use. They don’t require cement or fasteners, and their stackable design makes them simple to assemble. Available in various sizes, these blocks have a wide range of applications, from retaining walls and storage bays to sound barriers and road barriers. They are also used in production facilities, salt sheds, and collision protection. All blocks are Kiwa-certified, meaning they meet rigorous safety and quality standards.

Environmental Benefits

One of the standout advantages of the fiberglass plastic block is its environmental impact. A typical concrete block emits about 175 kg of CO₂ per unit. In contrast, each fiberglass plastic block only produces 0.44 kg of CO₂—a dramatic 99% reduction. That’s a savings of 174 kg of CO₂ per block, significantly lowering the carbon footprint of construction projects.

Key Advantages of GRC Blocks

  • Made entirely from recycled materials and fully recyclable
  • Designed with a circular approach—zero material waste
  • Lighter than concrete, making transport easier and cheaper
  • Stronger than traditional blocks, offering durability and safety
  • Lifetime longevity and minimal maintenance required

With every GRC block installed, Jansen Recycling Group is not just creating physical structures—they are also contributing to a more sustainable, circular economy. By choosing recycled materials and reducing CO₂ emissions, they are setting a new standard for sustainable construction practices.
