Bally Ribbon Mills advances webbing solutions for parachute and aerospace systems

Bally Ribbon Mills (BRM) continues to play a critical role in the parachute industry through the design and manufacture of highly specialized engineered woven fabrics. BRM’s parachute webbing is produced using high-performance fibers such as Nylon, Kevlar®, Vectran®, PTFE, and Zylon® PBO. These narrow woven fabrics are built to comply with demanding military and aerospace standards, including PIA-Spec and Mil-Spec specifications, where failure is not an option.

Among BRM’s core offerings are its Nylon Webbing (Mil-W-4088K) and Tubular Nylon Webbing (Mil-W-5625K). Both products are Berry Amendment compliant and manufactured entirely in the United States. Each production run undergoes detailed testing to ensure uniform strength, controlled elongation, and dependable performance under load key factors in parachute harnesses, risers, and canopy reinforcements.

The company is also developing new woven tapes and webbings using DuPont’s Kevlar® EXO fiber. This next-generation material delivers a higher strength-to-weight ratio than Kevlar® 29 and Vectran®, while remaining more cost-efficient than traditional PBO fibers. Kevlar® EXO is currently being evaluated for parachute applications where reduced weight and consistent strength are critical, offering a practical option for future system designs.

BRM’s parachute webbings are engineered to perform in extreme conditions. Features such as low pack volume, high energy absorption, and strong abrasion resistance support safe deployment and long service life. These characteristics are essential not only in airborne operations but also in advanced aerospace programs, including rocket launch vehicles, capsule recovery systems, and NASA-directed commercial initiatives.

Quality assurance remains central to BRM’s operations. The company holds ISO 9001:2015 and AS9100D certifications and follows strict federal compliance requirements. By sourcing and manufacturing all products domestically, BRM ensures full Berry Amendment compliance and consistent material traceability.
