CARBIOS adjusts timeline for Longlaville PET biorecycling plant
CARBIOS has reaffirmed its plan to move forward with the construction of its PET biorecycling plant in Longlaville, France, while adjusting the project timeline by around three months. The company says the decision reflects ongoing progress on commercial and financing fronts rather than a change in long-term intent.
During 2025, CARBIOS signed pre-commercialization contracts covering nearly half of the future plant’s production capacity. These agreements span several sectors, including cosmetics packaging, beverage bottles, and textile filaments used in tires. The company is now working to secure commitments that would bring coverage to about 70% of capacity in the near term. According to CARBIOS, this level of interest shows strong demand for biorecycled PET produced with its enzymatic technology.
The commercial traction has also helped advance discussions around project financing. CARBIOS expects the Longlaville plant to be financed largely through a mix of private debt and equity, supported by confirmed public funding of €42.5 million. Once completed, the site is expected to operate with non-recourse financing, meaning it would be financially independent from CARBIOS’ balance sheet.
A small remaining portion of the funding still needs to be secured. The company aims to finalize this by the end of the first quarter of 2026. If that target is met, commissioning of the Longlaville plant is planned for the first half of 2028.
Alongside the plant project, CARBIOS continues to focus on licensing its PET biorecycling technology globally. In December 2025, the company signed a strategic partnership with Wankai New Materials to deploy the technology in Asia. CARBIOS is also pursuing new licensing opportunities in Europe, as well as in North and South America.
Taken together, the updated timeline, growing order coverage, and parallel licensing efforts point to a phased but steady approach as CARBIOS works to scale its biorecycling technology both in France and abroad.
