ColorJet India Ltd. -Three decades of digital textile printing excellence

For textile manufacturers, digital printing is no longer a niche investment. Shorter production runs, on-demand manufacturing, lower water consumption and faster design changes are driving mills to modernise their printing operations. In this changing landscape, ColorJet India Ltd. has grown from an Indian equipment manufacturer into one of the most recognised suppliers of digital textile printing technology across international markets. Since its establishment in 1995, the company has focused on designing and manufacturing digital inkjet printing systems for textile and industrial applications, with a growing presence in more than 50 countries.

Today, ColorJet serves textile processors, apparel manufacturers, home furnishing producers and printing businesses with equipment that covers multiple printing technologies. The company states that it has installed more than 6,000 machines worldwide, supported by an experienced technical workforce and manufacturing facilities in Noida, India.

Three decades of digital printing development

ColorJet’s journey reflects the wider evolution of digital textile printing in India. The company began with wide-format printing solutions before expanding into direct-to-fabric textile printers.

A major milestone came in 2004 when ColorJet introduced what it describes as India’s first domestically manufactured direct-to-fabric digital textile printer. Later developments included collaborations with printhead manufacturers such as XAAR, Konica Minolta and Kyocera, allowing the company to broaden its industrial printer portfolio for different production environments.

Over the years, the company has expanded its manufacturing capacity while investing in research and development. According to ColorJet, its R&D capabilities have received recognition from India’s Department of Science & Technology, and its product development follows a design philosophy centred on economic operation, production efficiency and reduced environmental impact.

Meeting different textile printing requirements

Digital textile printing is no longer limited to fashion fabrics. Textile businesses now require equipment for apparel, sportswear, home textiles, soft signage, furnishing fabrics and customised production.

ColorJet addresses these varied requirements through multiple machine platforms rather than a single product line.

The company also provides complete pre- and post-printing solutions, inks and related production systems, enabling customers to build integrated digital textile printing operations rather than purchasing standalone equipment.

Responding to sustainability demands

Environmental regulations and changing buyer expectations continue to reshape textile manufacturing. Digital printing has become attractive because it can reduce water use, chemical consumption and inventory compared with conventional rotary or screen printing, depending on the application.

ColorJet has increasingly focused on pigment-based printing technologies, which eliminate several washing stages common in reactive printing. The company’s TXF pigment printers and Earth series were introduced to support mills seeking lower resource consumption and simplified production workflows.

For textile exporters supplying European and North American brands, such technologies can support production models that require faster sampling, smaller order quantities and greater design flexibility.

Expanding international presence

Although headquartered in India, ColorJet has steadily expanded its overseas footprint. The company reports operations or installations across more than 50 countries and maintains sales and technical support networks serving Asia, the Middle East, Europe, Africa and the Americas. Its installed base now exceeds 6,000 machines globally.

The company also participates regularly in major international textile and printing exhibitions, using these platforms to introduce new equipment and connect with textile manufacturers seeking digital production solutions.

The textile printing sector continues to move towards shorter lead times, customised production and greater operational efficiency. Manufacturers are increasingly evaluating equipment not only by printing speed but also by running costs, service support, colour consistency and production flexibility.

With nearly three decades of manufacturing experience, an expanding international customer base and a broad portfolio covering direct-to-fabric, sublimation and pigment printing technologies, ColorJet has positioned itself as a significant player in the global digital textile printing equipment market. As digital production gains further acceptance across apparel, home textiles and technical textiles, companies with integrated manufacturing, engineering expertise and global service capability are likely to remain central to the industry’s next phase of growth.
