Steven Ackerman named CEO of Covation Biomaterials
Covation Biomaterials (CovationBio), a leader in sustainable biomaterials, has announced the appointment of Steven Ackerman as its new Chief Executive Officer. Ackerman brings 15 years of experience in sustainable materials and a strong record of advancing bio-based products for global markets.

Ackerman succeeds Dean Trivits, who served as CEO after Michael Saltzberg’s retirement in 2023.
Ackerman has been with the company since 2010, starting with DuPont Biomaterials and continuing through the creation of CovationBio in 2022. He has played a central role in driving growth, technical progress, and innovation for the Sorona® business.
As Vice President of Product & Technology, he strengthened connections between global technology teams, sales, marketing, and customers. Under his leadership, teams across three laboratories worked on improving manufacturing processes, supporting operations, and raising quality standards. His collaborative style ensured that innovation matched market needs, opening the door for new uses of Sorona® polymer in fibers.
Ackerman has also been closely involved in Sorona® brand strategy, textile value chain development, and new product programs. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry from Lehigh University and a Master’s in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Delaware.
