Shima Seiki brings new flat knitting solutions to ITMA Asia + CITME 2025

Shima Seiki MFG., LTD. from Japan is getting ready to showcase its latest flat knitting solutions at ITMA Asia + CITME 2025, which runs from October 28 to 30 at the Singapore EXPO. Carrying the theme “Shima Seiki Reborn,” the company is highlighting a new wave of R-generation machines that reflect its renewed focus on technology and versatility.

A major debut will be the SES®-R computerized knitting machine. First seen as a prototype in Milan at ITMA 2023, the SES®-R is now fully production-ready. It pays tribute to the well-known SES® series but comes with new features, including a sinker system for advanced 3D shaping, loop pressers, and auto yarn carriers. These upgrades open the door to techniques such as intarsia, i-Plating® inverse plating, and inlay knitting. Designed with multiple uses in mind, the machine can handle apparel, sportswear, interior, and industrial applications. At the show, it will be demonstrated in 14 gauge.

This year also marks 30 years since Shima Seiki first introduced WHOLEGARMENT® knitting at ITMA 1995. To celebrate, the company is unveiling the SWG®-XR, the next step in its WHOLEGARMENT® series. With four needle beds and the SlideNeedle™ system, the machine offers about 25% higher productivity and a wider patterning range compared to the MACH2®XS. The model on display will feature an 18L setup with 15-gauge needles arranged at an 18-gauge pitch.

Beyond machines, Shima Seiki is also putting a spotlight on digital tools. The APEXFiz® design software, available as a subscription, along with SHIMA SEIKI Online Services, aim to simplify design-to-production workflows and support more sustainable practices. The SDS® KnitPaint-Online software will also be introduced as a standalone version of the company’s well-known KnitPaint system for knit programming.

With a mix of new machinery, digital solutions, and a continued push toward efficiency and sustainability, Shima Seiki is set to make a strong impression at this year’s ITMA Asia + CITME.
