Shelton Vision showcases advanced machine vision at ITMA Asia + CITME 2025

Machine learning and AI are making their mark in textile technology, with UK-based Shelton Vision leading the charge at the upcoming ITMA Asia + CITME exhibition in Singapore. From October 28-31, Shelton Vision will showcase how its advanced machine vision systems are revolutionizing fabric inspection. The company is part of a 20-member delegation from the British Textile Machinery Association (BTMA) set to highlight advancements in textile machinery, new performance fibers, and the latest testing and processing technologies.

One of Shelton Vision’s key focuses at the exhibition will be its machine vision inspection technology, which now incorporates machine learning to detect and classify fabric defects at speeds previously unimaginable. This technology can now identify the smallest faults in both plain and patterned fabrics, achieving defect detection accuracy of over 98%. The addition of deep learning AI enhances the system’s ability to classify and grade defects with up to 100% accuracy.

Shelton will also demonstrate its stand-alone AI Classifier, designed for use with third-party inspection systems that lack defect classification and grading capabilities. This system helps eliminate subjective manual decisions, improving efficiency and throughput in fabric production. By integrating this AI Classifier, companies can enhance their existing inspection systems, making the process quicker, more reliable, and cost-effective.

Another major innovation from Shelton Vision is its optimized cut plan capability, based on automated defect classification and grading. This feature is expected to play a key role in fabric production plants, ensuring greater ROI by enhancing production accuracy and efficiency.

Shelton’s CEO, Mark Shelton, emphasizes the value of the data generated by these vision systems.

At the show, we will focus on how the output from our vision systems can benefit the entire value chain, including the brand. By providing reliable fabric quality data immediately after inspection, we’re helping to reduce lead times, waste, and increase productivity. Shelton’s patterned fabric inspection system is gaining traction in new markets such as outdoor upholstery and one-piece woven airbags, in addition to the ongoing demand for camouflage printing.
