Shandong launches TRECOTTTON pilot for fully traceable cotton supply chain

A new pilot program is setting a milestone for China’s cotton sector, introducing the country’s first fully traceable cotton supply chain from Shandong province. The initiative brings together Nongxi, Guanxu, and Aware™, combining sustainable farming practices with blockchain-backed traceability under the new TRECOTTTON® brand.
The 1,500 metric ton pilot ensures complete visibility from seed planting in Shandong to finished textile products. Each cotton bale becomes a digital record stored on public blockchain, documenting environmental impact, farming methods, and processing steps in real time. The project not only highlights Shandong’s long-standing agricultural expertise but also positions its farming communities as leaders in transparency.
Recognition for Farming Communities
The pilot underscores the role of Shandong’s farming families, who are recognized for their knowledge in integrated pest management, biodiversity protection, soil health, and efficient water use. Their work, now visible through blockchain data, provides brands and consumers with direct insights into sustainable cotton production. By reducing reliance on chemical fertilizers and pesticides, the program demonstrates that traceable and environmentally responsible cotton is both scalable and commercially viable.
The initiative also focuses on farmer well-being. Participating households will gain stable income streams, access to training programs, and stronger links to global textile markets, ensuring that economic opportunity grows alongside environmental stewardship.
A Cross-Border Collaboration
This project marks the first collaboration between Chinese cotton expertise and European blockchain technology. Guanxu’s first-mile traceability tools, Nongxi’s sustainable farming protocols, and Aware’s blockchain chain-of-custody system are integrated into a single platform. The outcome is a supply chain that not only delivers transparency but also aligns with upcoming Digital Product Passport (DPP) requirements.
Cotton Available in October 2025
The first harvest of TRECOTTTON® traceable cotton will be ready for sourcing in October 2025. Brands and manufacturers will be able to access premium Shandong cotton with verified sustainability credentials and complete supply chain documentation.
