Lenzing partners with Marchi & Fildi S.p.A. to unlock premium quality in recycled fabrics

The Lenzing Group, renowned for its sustainable cellulosic fibers, has joined forces with several leading manufacturers to overcome a longstanding challenge in fashion incorporating recycled content without compromising on quality. Through strategic collaborations, Lenzing has successfully demonstrated how its responsibly produced TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers can enhance the unpredictable quality of mechanically recycled natural fibers, creating consistent and commercially viable fabrics.

Lenzing’s innovation in sustainable fashion has been made possible through partnerships with key players such as Marchi & Fildi S.p.A, Maglificio Maggia, Destro Fabrics, and Madiva. Together, these companies have showcased how TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, including TENCEL™ Lyocell – LF, TENCEL™ Lyocell – LFH, and TENCEL™ Lyocell – A100, can smooth out the inconsistencies often seen in recycled fibers like cotton, silk, and wool.

The fashion industry is striving to increase its use of recycled materials, but maintaining quality while using these materials has been a major barrier. By integrating TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers with recycled cotton, silk, and wool, we are enabling brands to adopt circular fashion solutions without compromising the premium quality consumers expect.

The approach leverages specific variants of TENCEL™ Lyocell fibers, designed to address challenges in working with recycled materials. TENCEL™ Lyocell – LF and TENCEL™ – LFH fibers offer exceptional softness and processing stability, while TENCEL™ Lyocell – A100 delivers brilliant color retention and functionality, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.

These fiber innovations have already been implemented across diverse fabrics, from premium knits blending recycled silk and TENCEL™ Lyocell – A100, to versatile apparel fabrics combining recycled cotton with TENCEL™ Lyocell – LF. A standout development is the use of Cradle to Cradle-Certified™ ROICA™ V550 elastane alongside TENCEL™ fibers for more sustainable garment constructions.

This collaboration allows us to elevate mechanical fiber recycling. By working together with internationally recognized companies, we are able to meet the specific needs of the market and expand our yarn offerings.

The partnership also highlights the growing importance of supply chain collaboration, as emphasized by other partners involved in the project. “Using recycled silk with TENCEL™ is a great example of combining sustainability with luxury,” said Giovanna Maggia, Board Director at Maglificio Maggia.

Alberto Ottocento, Sales Manager at Destro Fabrics, echoed this sentiment, noting that the integration of recycled TENCEL™ fibers with recycled cotton allows for softer, more comfortable fabrics that maintain a high level of quality.

The collaboration showcases the potential of circularity without compromise. By combining mechanically recycled fibers with TENCEL™ Lyocell, a fiber made from sustainably sourced wood, Lenzing proves that it is possible to create high-quality fabrics that benefit both the environment and the fashion industry.

This work is part of Lenzing’s broader vision to drive innovation across the textile value chain. The company will showcase these developments at Milano Unica from July 8–10, 2025, highlighting the ongoing progress of circular fashion and the commitment to sustainable practices in the industry.
