Crystal International scales denim sustainability with smart factories

Crystal International is advancing its sustainability roadmap with denim at the center of innovation. The Hong Kong-based apparel manufacturer shared its 2025 Sustainability Report, outlining measurable gains in renewable energy, water efficiency, and smart manufacturing.

The company operates across Vietnam, China, Cambodia, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka. Its Sustainability Vision 2030 targets eight impact areas covering the environment, workers, and communities.

Crystal is advancing denim sustainability with strong results. Water use has dropped to 15–20 liters per kg, saving up to 30 percent, while overall freshwater intensity is down nearly 8 percent since 2022. Process optimization adds another 10 percent reduction.

Half of denim washing now uses waterless enzymes, cutting water use by up to 20 percent, reducing time by half, and eliminating steam.

With its CirClimate collection and 85 percent sustainable cotton use, Crystal shows that water efficiency, innovation, and circular materials are now core to competitiveness.

Also, Crystal reported that 40 percent of its total energy use came from renewable sources in 2025. The company expanded rooftop solar installations across facilities to maximize on-site generation.

Its denim factory installed a 2.09 MW solar system supported by a regulating device. This system optimizes internal electricity use by distributing surplus solar power across workshops. A lifestyle factory also adopted a 1.29 MWh battery storage system to stabilize energy supply.
