Circular Textile Days 2025 highlights real progress in textile recycling

Circular Textile Days 2025 brought together industry leaders, researchers, and innovators to explore practical solutions for textile sustainability. Held as a platform for showcasing real-world impact, the event focused on how circular practices are being implemented—not just imagined. Among the key presentations was the RegioGreenTex initiative, which demonstrated how European partnerships are turning textile waste into valuable resources through working models and collaborative projects.

At Circular Textile Days 2025, the RegioGreenTex initiative took center stage with a clear message: textile recycling isn’t just a goal—it’s happening. Christiaan Bolck from Oost NL presented several working projects that show how discarded garments can be turned into new materials and products without compromising quality or style.

One standout was SaXcell, a regenerated fiber made from cellulose-rich textile waste. Instead of sending old clothes to landfills, SaXcell transforms them into fresh, usable fiber. It’s already being used in real production, not just lab tests.

Another project, The Waste Wizard, helps cities and companies sort textile waste more effectively. It’s a digital platform that identifies and separates materials so they can be recycled properly. This kind of sorting is key to making sure recycled fibers are clean and usable.

The Circular Garment project brought it all together. Using recycled fibers from SaXcell and partners like Sasia, the team created a fully traceable garment that proves recycled fashion can be stylish and durable. It’s not just a prototype—it’s a finished product.

These efforts are backed by European funding and strong partnerships. They’re not flashy concepts or distant dreams. They’re practical steps that show how textile recycling can work at scale
