Accelerating the green transition: key voices at the ITMA sustainability forum 2025

On October 30, 2025, at the Singapore Expo, CEMATEX (the European Committee of Textile Machinery Manufacturers) will host a half‑day forum alongside ITMA ASIA + CITME, the half-day event focuses on practical steps toward circularity, with speakers from the European Commission, IKEA, ReHubs, and several Asian institutions.

The forum opens with remarks from CEMATEX and the Singapore Fashion Council, followed by a keynote from Kristin Schreiber, Director at the European Commission (DG GROW). Her presentation outlines how EU policies—such as Extended Producer Responsibility, Digital Product Passport, and Eco-design requirements—are reshaping expectations for textile and garment exporters.

Robert van de Kerkhof, CEO of ReHubs, speaks next on how sustainable textile technologies can help future-proof the industry. Mukesh Sharma from IKEA of Sweden AB shares insights into material innovation, focusing on yarns, fibers, and fillings. Shri Rohit Kansal, Additional Secretary at India’s Ministry of Textiles, discusses the country’s green transformation efforts.

A panel discussion follows, featuring Peter Decorte of Viva Aviv Asia and moderated by Nicole van der Elst Desai of VDE Consultancy. The conversation centers on production efficiency and waterless dyeing technologies.

After a short break, the second half of the forum turns to finance. Dr Rene Van Berkel from EU SWITCH-Asia explains how circular practices can benefit businesses. Iris Ng of OCBC highlights banking support for SMEs going green. Michael Rattinger from the Asian Development Bank outlines funding opportunities for sustainable development.

The final panel includes Phil Morle of Main Sequence Ventures, who invests in startups working on carbon-negative fibres and polymer recycling. Brandon Courban of Openspace Ventures moderates the session, drawing on his experience in climate-focused private equity.

The forum closes with a reminder that participation is limited to registered ITMA ASIA + CITME exhibitors and visitors. Attendees gain direct access to policymakers and experts, with a focus on collaboration, shared challenges, and practical solutions.
